Fresh summer walking plans!

We meet at the Toronto College Street West End YMCA each Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. and set out on foot for wonderful conversation, fresh air and… walking!

We walk for one to two hours, and cover six to ten kilometres. Out for a stroll on Bloor Street West
Not to mention covering all sorts of interesting topics,
and seeing plenty of intriguing architecture, businesses,
blooming or greening plant life
and even other walkers!

All are welcome. Wear comfortable shoes.
Terrain is fairly easy (mostly sidewalks).
Pace is moderate. Hope to see you soon!

Here is this week’s update and plan:

Hi fellow walkers!

Last week, we enjoyed a sunny stroll in the Liberty outdoor market. Beautiful harvest colours and special treats, too. Asparagus, maple syrup, honey (and its many wonders – remember that great Honey Bee talk?), gorgeous strawberries and even Tibetan momos. A nice morning!

This week, Sunday, June 29, we head to the Baldwin Steps. A little change of pace from our usual even-ground walks. (Okay, a little challenge!) C’mon along! Not sure what they are? Or wondering if you can manage all of them? I bet you can. It’s only 110 steps. We won’t rush. And there are landings, to minimize strain and sweat! (whew!)

The view will reward us. If you prefer, you can walk around the other way (up a slightly curving hill instead of steps), for another lovely view. We’ll meet at the top. No worries. We will proceed home by a less-stepped route! No TTC fare required this week. Unless we’re tired after our stair climb.

Everything in that lovely area should be green; the flowers will be blooming. Let’s go enjoy it!

Let’s discuss requests for future walks. We’ll re-run favourites, of course (High Park soon, Allan Gardens greenhouses soon, the Sunnyside Beach area – good place to cool our feet?). It would be terrific to have your input. What destinations should we repeat? Where else should we explore? Several of us want to venture further afield, occasionally. That would be fun. I have a list of suggestions. I hope to limit longer trips, or trips with any cost, to once a month or so, to make it really easy for all to participate. You must have some great suggestions about nearby destinations? Comment here, or bring them along and we can all talk about it.

See you in the usual place, Sunday, 9:00 a.m. Wear good shoes for this one. Bring water. Heat, plus possible rain or thundershowers, predicted. You know the plan: we walk, regardless. (Rain = refreshing! :-))
