Our neighbourhood sidewalks…

Welcome, walkers! Not following this website yet? Eek!

Meet at Toronto College Street West End YMCA
Sundays at 9:00 a.m.
Conversation, fresh air, exercise and city exploration.

In one to two hours, we cover six to ten kilometres.
Not to mention covering all sorts of interesting topics,
and seeing intriguing architecture, businesses, cats, dogs,
plant life, street art… and even other walkers!

Wear comfortable shoes. Terrain is easy (mostly sidewalks). Pace is moderate. All are welcome, so see you soon!

This week’s update and plan:

West-enders! When was the last time you looked at Bloor Street? I mean, really looked. At the street!
That’s the plan this week, on Sunday, August 31: Renovations and improvements are afoot (pun intended, I guess) in Bloorcourt and Bloordale, and some have already resulted in new street and curb plans with lovely sidewalk inclusions, and soon: planters and more. Let’s see how they’re coming along! If you want to read a bit about this project, check out this article. I haven’t discovered all the special sidewalk flowers yet, so please help me count them. We’ll see if they are up to 100!

Last week, several of us enjoyed a terrific, good-paced lane wander. We had a wonderful, sunny day for it. You might like to see a few of the murals we admired:

Several of these were painted by the same artist (Birdo DMC, a.k.a. Jerry Rugg: more of his work, here. You know I’m a fan if you were with us for an earlier mural walk, where we enjoyed his horse.). That lane pictured above is nearby, so we’ll visit again. Other lanes ahead, too.

As for this Sunday, it may rain. No problem. Bring an umbrella if you like! Let’s walk together and have a wonderful morning.

Requests for future walks? Comment here, or bring your ideas along on Sunday. We’re accumulating a great list of destinations. If you haven’t joined us lately, now is the time. We’ve missed you! And, lots of good walks ahead:

Coming up soon: bird migration watch with picnic on the Toronto Islands. Yes, that will be Part 2 of our Island Walking mini-series, guided by our friend, and local Island expert, Tony. Thanksgiving weekend, fall colour, something to celebrate together. Can’t wait! Other ideas: textile work and art in the city, the history of our Portuguese neighbourhood, local statuary, salmon spawning, another beach walk, a serious river valley hike, and more.

This week, see you in the usual place: Sunday, 9:00 a.m.

Invite a friend to join us? Any walking friend of yours is a walking friend of ours!

Are you reading about our club for the first time?
Excellent! And welcome! Now that you know… please join us!
