Walkabout week!

Update:

Double the walking fun, last week. We enjoyed a neighbourhood walk over to Sorauren and around some of the surrounding residential streets and lanes, where we discovered a bunch of sweet things. A cottage, a fence of vines and old pipes, a couple of other Y-members, amusing lane bollards, murals, graffiti, and more.

Then, Sally and I met the Not Far From the Tree (NFFTT) and Wild Foragers folks for a Gladstone Hotel area walk called Urban Edibles (part of the Gladstone’s “Grow Op” event – where we checked out the Urban Agricultural Fair, too). I‘d met Laura before, and it was lovely to see and talk with her again, before she leaves NFFTT for new horizons. It was an excellent walking day.

And this week’s plan…

May 1 – 3, 2015 weekend walks:

So, do you remember last year around this time, when we created our own (rather wonderful) Jane’s Walk? I hope you were able to join us on that rainy day, because we it was amazing. This year, we decided against making our own Jane’s Walk, and in favour of taking several other Jane’s Walks instead.

Adrianna and I devised great plans for several walks over the weekend:

  • FRIDAY afternoon walk: Greenroof & Wall Tour. Please arrive at 105 St. George Street, promptly! 12:30, Friday afternoon.
  • SATURDAY afternoon walk: Art and Parks Hidden Between Buildings. Meet at 300 Front Street West (corner of John Street). Look for the orange Jane’s Walk flag, at 3:00 p.m.
  • really early SUNDAY morning, if you think you can handle it: Dawn Chorus Walk. This is something really special: early morning birdsong in the park! It starts at 5:00 a.m. Please be in touch with me directly (that is, a formal emailed RSVP!) if you’ll join us for this one. There will be coffee. (They promise!) We’re going by car, but if you want to meet us there, info is all at the link.
  • and finally, (another) SUNDAY walk, at our usual time! (Phew!) This may be like many walks we’ve imagined and enjoyed together: City By Heart (lifestyle, history and culture)It sounds like our cup of tea (or… read the description at the link: it could be our cup of coffee… or maybe even our scoop of ice cream!). Meet at the Y at 9:00 a.m., as usual. We’ll walk to the Queen Street West gates of Trinity-Bellwoods Park. If you’ll meet us there, please arrive by 10:00! The walk ends near CAMH at around 11. We’ll walk home from there – your choice of route! (Maybe back past that ice cream shop… )

Coming up: summer walks! Yahoo! Next week: Cherry blossoms! Then on to Wychwood, Beaches, Little India (and brunch), an amazing all-day picnic-hike to the Leslie Spit, Queen’s Park, Riverdale Park, Doors Open Toronto, an afternoon visit to Kensington, an amazing day at Ward’s Island for the Strawberry Social, maybe the Scarborough Bluffs… and twenty other spring, summer and fall things. Join us!

See you soon!

Are you reading about our club for the first time?

Welcome! You really should walk with us! See you in the morning!
