Dawn Ceremony and Food Fest!

Off we set, in the rain. Luckily, we had umbrellas. The rain soon stopped, and we enjoyed an interesting neighbourhood walk, noting flowers and homes, windchimes and yet another little sidewalk library. My plan to walk in a spiral (yes, that was the plan!) was thwarted by the clock. We just ran out of time. But we managed a big rectangular wander. What a nice Sunday morning. Thanks for sharing it!

This week, on June 21, 2015…

It’s going to be a terrific Sunday. June is Aboriginal History Month, and June 21 is National Aboriginal Day, a day to share and celebrate culture and tradition. This week includes a bunch of events around town. This one looks like a beautiful way to begin our Sunday, and to participate in the First Nations tradition of greeting the start of day. We’ll attend a Sunrise Ceremony at 5:30 a.m. We’ll leave the Y at 5:00, so if you’re running late, you could meet us at City Hall, on the podium rooftop, for this very special event.

More info here, about the traditional PowWow at Fort York, if you’d like to continue your day with some amazing festivities.

We’ll take a break after the Sunrise Ceremony and then regroup at the Y to head down to David Pecaut Square for Indigenous PanAmerican Food Day at noon, part of this year’s Luminato Events. We will walk there, from our usual departure spot, at 11:00 a.m. We should arrive just in time for the start of demonstrations, music, food to try, and more. Come along – let’s have a look and see what’s cooking!

As always, please do bring a friend!

Coming right up:

Like to plan ahead? Don’t forget next week’s terrific event:
June 28, our Island escape walk, with Strawberry Tea and all the fixings. We leave early and return home mid-afternoon, tired and happy! If a ferry trip, tea sandwiches, and a bit of jazz under the trees are all on your agenda for June… and if you like your strawberry shortcake with a big dollop of whipped cream… join us! Info about cost, times, what to bring, and more… soon!
Later: another LEAF-planned tree-walk, a picnic, a brunch, a little patio coffee date, and a hike along the Rouge River… while we enjoy fabulous summer weather.

See you soon!

Are you reading about our club for the first time?

Welcome. You really should walk with us! See you in the morning!
