Bundle up!

Fall is really here – let’s enjoy it!
But first, about last week:

Update:

I missed you… but I had a wonderful day! Everyone was away, and busy, and cooking turkey and baking pies… so I didn’t mind hiking the Leslie Spit on my own. My picnic was ready, so why waste it, right? I had an amazing, sunny, thoughtful walk, with just the right amount of breeze, and plenty to explore. Great transit trips there and back, too – the way east in the company of lovely Y-friend, Peggy. Nice little surprise to meet her at the street-car stop. We shared Thanksgiving stories and Toronto thoughts, and enjoyed the morning ride through town.

I won’t tell you much about “the spit” – or, Tommy Thompson Park, as it’s officially known. I think it is better experienced. It’s open weekends and holidays, so I definitely recommend a visit. Got a few hours? Go! Next year, we’ll try again! I think you’ll love it.

Here’s some of what I saw:

Few captions. Only one real selfie. Not bad!

This week, Sunday, October 18, 2015:

Time for an autumn island getaway! You’ll need TTC fare, and Island ferry fare ($7.25 adult/4.75 senior or student – return). We’re on the ferry service’s winter schedule now, so will use the Ward’s Island ferry, both ways. We can wander the pretty streets of Ward’s Island, if you like. And we can see the Leslie Spit from the boardwalk! (I’ll point out where I texted and waved to Tony, last week!)

We’ll transit to the docks, leaving the Y at 9, as usual. We are aiming for the 10:00 ferry departure.

Bring a sandwich and water. Wear layers, and be prepared for any weather! So far, the forecast is cool. Let’s say we love the fall weather and enjoy every bit of sun, cloud and wind. And we’ll hope for no rain. (But this is a rain-or-shine plan!)

We’ll take a short walk and have an early lunch picnic… somewhere pretty. We’ll admire the lake, enjoy some colourful leaves and have a beautiful view of the city. We won’t stay long. Maybe we’ll catch the 12:45 or 1:15 ferry back to the docks, and then head home. Sound good?

It won’t be the same without you! Come on along – and bring friends, if you like. (We like!)

Coming right up:

Here comes fall! Varied weather ahead. Some shorter neighbourhood exploring walks are definitely in order.

Do you have route suggestions or requests? Do tell!

Are you reading about our club for the first time?

Welcome. You really should walk with us! See you in the morning!
