Overdo it a bit?
There’s a walk for that!
About our three past walks:
We’ve been walking! And walking! Some of us attended an excellent Saturday afternoon Messiah excerpts concert, at St James Cathedral (had a little walk, plus a great impromptu dinner and talk, too). Thanks to Louise for the concert invitation, to Jan for the dinner location suggestion, and to Anna, Nilla and Anne Marie for excellent company (and for singing carols in tune!). All in, that day (though it wasn’t really a walking date), we walked 3.5 km.
The following week, we TTC’d out to Centennial Conservatory to renew our acquaintance with Angel, the cockatoo (and his lovely budgie and cockatiel co-habitants… and the pond turtles and koi… ) and see some Christmas blooms. We covered a lot of ground, after that, walking back to the subway. We really had to hustle, to stay warm. It was chilly! And… yep, another 10.2 km. Nice work!
Then, there was this week’s casual walk! We decided we’d just go for an “ordinary” wander and enjoyed a great trip down to view the lake. With home-baked goodies, too! That one netted another 14.6 km. We’re doing really well in our Bracebridge or Bust! MegaWalk challenge! Maybe you’ll want to think about what to do if we accidentally walk further than 200 km. What a catastrophe. (Not!)
In the meantime, here are some photos of our recent explorations about town. What a great walking fall it’s been. Have a peek at these pix, taken by several of us. Click on any of them to go to a larger carousel version, so you can scroll through, see irreverent titles, photo credits, and zoom in on important details (that pizza, that salad, for instance! And those blossoms – wow.).
This Sunday, December 27, 2015:
As always, let’s meet at the Y at 9:00 a.m. We’ll walk east to Spadina, to check the progress on the Daniels architectural building’s renovations, and then walk up Queen’s Park to see the (post-)Christmas lights. We can duck further east a bit, to see Aura, up close, if everyone agrees. Then, back along Bloor and Harbord. Sound good? Maybe the mild weather will hold.
And maybe now is the right time to wish you all a lovely Christmas Eve, and a very Merry Christmas. If we haven’t seen you in a while, do join us. Anytime! Bring friends. Bring route suggestions. Bring stories! We’ll be pleased to see you, anytime.
Coming right up:
Let’s hear your new route suggestions! And please do cast your votes for our brunch among the trees (and maybe a dusting of snow… if we’re lucky) in High Park. People are often sad to miss the brunch-walk dates, so let me know when you can join us. We’ll do our best to make it convenient for most! (And if you can’t make it, we’ll plan another one, when you can!)
Are you reading about our club for the first time?
Welcome. You really should walk with us! See you in the morning!
