Cherry blossoms THIS WEEK! (Walk 1 of 2!) (Stay tuned!)
But first, about last week:
It was a long walk, with hills, ponds, creeks, a forest, swans, a marsh, and more. If you’ve never been to Rennie Park, with its delightful creek seeping into Catfish Pond, and growing wetlands (including swans!), we highly recommend a visit. It was a gorgeous sunny day. The temperature felt a bit like autumn, but that’s another discussion. There were just two of us, which meant easy decisions (no coin-flipping required), and a speedy agreement to share a treat in a cozy Bloor West Village bakery, afterwards (after all, we had earned it!). Have a look at this park. I envy the folks who live nearby. Yes, especially those two houses that back onto the pond.

This week, Sunday 01 May 2016:
Part 1 of 2.
Walk with us to Trinity-Bellwoods Park for their young, early harbingers of spring: their tiny cherry tree collection. These fairly new trees were only planted six years ago, and have so far bloomed earlier than the older sakura in High Park (which we will visit the following week). The original plan this week had been to view the terrific little cherry tree grove at U of T’s Robarts Library but, apparently, those trees are being stored off-site, while renovations to the building take place. (We’ll see them another year.)
This walk may included a delicate floral macaron at a nearby bakery… if we time it just right!
The following week, 08 May, weather and bloom-schedule permitting… Part 2 of 2: High Park, for a larger showing of blossoms (we hope). By the way: we won’t have brunch in the park, that time. The 8th is Mothers’ Day, so the entire place will be busy! We’ll just enjoy seeing the trees and then return home.
In the meantime, see you this Sunday at 9 for a tiny floral display. I hope they’re lovely.
Coming right up:
Spring and summer walks ahead. Great suggestions have been flowing in. Are you ready for Jane’s Walk? Of course we’ll go again – hope you can join us! In addition to our High Park cherry blossom visit, we hope to plan another walk or two, that same weekend, in honour of Jane Jacob’s admonishment that, above all, we should just get out there and WALK! (So, walk we will.) Plenty of city to explore.
See you soon!
Are you reading about our club for the first time?
Welcome. You really should walk with us! See you in the morning!
