Blooming reprieve and games in the park

This week, east end history.
And brunch!

But first, about last week:

There were indeed cherry blossoms! We visited Osgoode Hall’s beautiful front garden and found blooming trees, blooming tulips and more. Then we had a short walk over to City Hall’s recently re-dedicated Peace Garden for a few minutes of contemplation. We were on a walking mission, of course, but those are both places that deserve longer visits. The Peace Garden is worth your attention, if you happen to be in the neighbourhood. The flame now burns bright.

And then, for something completely different… we walked west to Stanley Park for a few goofy games of table tennis! The wind makes this outdoor sport a bit, um, challenging! We’d done this once before and had great fun. Same this time. These nifty outdoor tables (at several local parks, and coming soon to more… including our nearby Dufferin Grove?) make for a great little sunny day diversion. And exercise! Next time… join us. (Definitely practice your serve in the wind!) No scores were kept. No rules were applied. We all improved greatly (in our half-hour spent mostly chasing balls in the breeze!). 🙂 Good times. I’m already planning to go back!

This week, Sunday 29 May 2016:

As most of you know, we’re heading out early on an east end Doors Open Toronto walk, to see the historic buildings and fascinating sculpture and installations on the property of the former Bickford House/Ranelagh Park/Guild of All Arts/Guild Inn. This will be an exciting morning, with information and stories from knowledgeable walk hosts, John Mason & Janet Heise. A few of us have committed to this trip (TTC out and back, with brunch after the walk). We’d love your company. If you haven’t booked your spot yet, please have a look here, pronto, and see if there is still room. Please print and bring your ticket! We’ll meet at the Y at 8:30 a.m. sharp, to join the 10:00 walk, which meets at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Collegiate Institute, 145 Guildwood Parkway. If you plan to meet us there, great!

Coming right up:

In two weeks, we’ll ferry across to the island and meet Tony for an excellent morning walk… culminating at the Island Strawberry Social. Sandwiches, shortcake and a little jazz, under the trees of St. Andrew by the Lake Church. Can’t wait to share that with everyone! We enjoyed it so much, two years ago, that we have eagerly awaited the return of this event. (Last year’s date was cancelled due to rain.) Please save Sunday, June 12 for a morning and mid-day trip to the Island. There’s a bit of a budget involved in this walk, so details, soon. In the meantime, where would you like to walk next weekend? Do tell!

See you soon for more terrific walks!

Are you reading about our club for the first time?

Welcome. You really should walk with us! See you in the morning!
