The Thin Green Line

Just ahead: our Island Escape.
And you have an assignment for that.

But first, about last week:

This summer, we’ll explore several contrasting diagonal routes through the city. This was the first, and it was pretty handy. Have you heard of the Green Line? Well, neither had we, really. At least, not officially! There’s an initiative working hard to consolidate a continuous green area, made up of multiple parks, spreading across numerous neighbourhoods, just north of us. The Green Line will connect Davenport/Dupont to St. Clair/Caledonia Park. So, north and west we went. The parks (there are many!) roughly follow the hydro corridor (some of which we’d visited before). This time, we started at Geary and Dovercourt and headed all the way to Earlscourt Park and out to St. Clair. Lots of room for future exploration here, too – the eastern beginnings of the trail, for instance (though not yet fully “greened”). And possibly the well-pathed Prospect Point Cemetery, on the north side of St. Clair. All ahead. In the meantime enjoy some photos of our exploration… and rewards! By complete fluke, we chose a rather signatory location to enter the park!

“Because you’re mine, I walk the line.” (Oh, it was our pleasure, really!)

NEXT: Sunday, June 12, 2016:

The weather looks promising. The Strawberry Social is ON!

If you were with us for that, two years ago, I need say no more. Just be there!

For those who haven’t experienced this, now is your chance. This is a day with a little budget. And a pre-walk assignment, too. So, here we go:

Assignment first! If you’ll join us, please go here and purchase your FERRY TICKET! This can all be done online and will save us line-up time. We may not be able to wait for people who haven’t done this. So please, please, hop online right now and book your fare. The costs and the link are right here. This is a return trip. And if you can’t print the ticket yourself, send the email to me, and I shall do that and bring them all along. Please read the webpage carefully, to ensure choosing the correct fare (and so that you know you can use the ticket until December, should Sunday be cancelled… ). (I didn’t like saying that, but… you never know.)

The confirmation email contains two attachments: the receipt (which you may or may not want). And the ticket (with barcode). That’s the important part to bring!

We’ll meet at the Y at 9 and take TTC to the docks to meet Tony. Our ferry departs for Hanlan’s Point at 10:15. If arriving by another method, please be in touch. Otherwise, see you there for an excellent day. So far, the forecast is fine: breezy and 20 degrees.

We’ll walk and tour the islands from west to east, with our wonderful host. Then we’ll all share an excellent lunch under the trees.

To bring:
– TTC fare
– Your printed ferry ticket
– Day-supplies (water, sunscreen, hat, umbrella, extra layer in case it’s cool)
– Lunch money ($15 lunch includes an assortment of sandwiches, strawberry shortcake, thirst-quenching punch, plus reviving coffee or tea. There will be live jazz, a silent auction to admire, the option to have a glass of bubbly ($8.00). Time spent enjoying the day, the view and good company.

Some will want to wander a bit further, after lunch. Especially if it’s a nice day. We’ll check the ferry schedule and can each choose when we wish to depart.

Sound good? I can’t wait.

Coming right up:

The Beaches. The BeltLine. Glen Stewart Ravine. The Spit. The Bluffs. A different Humber wander. A Don Valley Ravine walk. A bit of downtown. And uptown. And maybe even a little bit of out-of-town. (We’ll try!) Lots ahead.

See you soon!

What?!
You’re just finding WestWalking for the first time?!

Welcome. You really should walk with us!
See you in the morning!
