We visit a Mountain!
But first, about last week:
We first hiked past one Sorel Etrog outdoor sculpture, in front of U of T’s Hart House. Then, walked south to Mt. Sinai Hospital’s main floor Hennick Family Wellness Gallery (an entire gallery dedicated to sharing many of Etrog’s sculptural pieces – large and small, indoors and out).
Yes, hospitals should welcome art! Great for patients, staff, visitors needing a break, and… anyone. Highly recommended. After our visit there, we visited Baldwin Street east for tea and a treat at Bicerin Café. And then, south on University to see three more public sculptures by Etrog. Nice way to brighten up a grey day! Curious about Etrog? There’s plenty about the late Romanian-Canadian sculptor, online. And a great resource to visit in this nifty hospital gallery (with plenty of seating, too, if you want to linger and ponder). And a few more to discover out and about, too. Let us know which ones you find.

Sunday, January 05, 2017:
We’ll meet at the Y at 9:00 , and see a mountain! South on Spadina we shall walk, to the little Southern Linear Park. Then, across to tiny Simcoe Park. There’s a mountain, there. You’ll see!
Whatever else we encounter on this walk will be great. Probably not as great as Anish Kapoor’s Mountain, though. You’ll see.
No skiing on this particular mountain, sorry. We might find a good spot for hot chocolate, though. (Hellooooo, Soma!)
COMING RIGHT UP:
I’ve had a couple of requests to return to the construction hoardings around the new court house location. The history of The Ward is beautifully detailed there, as you may have seen in my recent post. Only a couple of us saw it, that very chilly day. Since others would like to visit, we’ll go again in a few weeks. We may also visit the light installations at The Distillery some evening. And I’m considering going to an interesting event to celebrate Black History Month (we may time-shift for that). And then, soon: Winter Stations! I’m hoping for snow.
AND MEGAwalk! More on this soon. We will make our annual 10 kilometre indoor fund-raiser walk on Saturday, March 04, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., on the lovely upstairs WEY track. Around and around! I’d love your company for this. A bunch of my delightful colleagues will join us – should be fun. Go to the YMCA Megathon website now, if you like, and create your fund-raising page. Then, sign up for MEGAwalk at the West End YMCA front desk. Two hours oughta do it!
See you soon!
You’re just finding WestWalking for the first time?!
Welcome. You really should walk with us!
See you in the morning!
